Kathmandu: The film ‘Jhari’, which has been earning a ‘blockbuster’ income within the country, shows no signs of slowing down. The film has also made its mark in the diaspora market, with several multiplexes in Nepal currently screening it.

The film, which has earned over 160 million Nepalese Rupees domestically, continues to maintain its consistency in performance. The Nepali community in Hong Kong recently witnessed the film’s premiere, attended by artists such as Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, and Rekha Limbu. The film was screened at four different venues, including Paris, London, New York, Milan, and the Vampo Garden Theater located in Hong Kong. Dambarkrishna Shrestha, a journalist based in Hong Kong, provided information about the numerous shows organized for the film. According to him, the entire show was sold out, indicating the significant market presence of Nepali films in Hong Kong, with ‘Jhari’ receiving support in expanding its reach. The presence of prominent figures from the film industry has also generated interest in the storyline of ‘Jhari’.

Prior to this, ‘Jhari’ has been screened in various countries, including America, Europe, and South and Southeast Asian countries. The film, produced by Kabaddi fame Ram Babu Gurung and directed by Upendra Subba, presents the narrative of the prevalent Jhari practice in the Limbu community of Eastern Nepal. As work progresses on Ram Babu Gurung’s directorial film ‘Degree Mile’, featuring Dayahang Rai in the lead role, ‘Jhari’ highlights the collaboration of Dayahang and Miruna in the film ‘Nango Gaun’.
