Kathmandu:  When an attack occurred at a school in Uganda, resulting in the death of 40 people, it was carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a rebel group associated with the Islamic State. The attack took place at a secondary school located in the town of Beni, western Uganda.

Among the 40 individuals killed in the attack, many were students residing in the school hostel. The condition of eight individuals injured in the attack is critical. According to local time, the attack took place on Friday night around 11:30 PM. A Ugandan military Major General informed local media outlets about the incident. According to him, some students were brutally murdered, while others were abducted.

The ADF had announced their rebellion in the 1990s and is said to be based in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Uganda and Congo have been conducting joint military operations against the ADF. A military operation conducted 18 months ago had ended in failure against the ADF.

After the attack on the school on Friday, the group was pursued by the military, including the use of aircraft, and they were reported to have taken refuge in the Virunga National Park in Congo, as reported by the BBC.
