kathmandu: In the Russian airstrikes in northwest Syria, thirteen people, including two children, were killed. Thirty locals who were injured in the incident are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
The Russian airstrikes targeted areas under the control of rebel groups. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights’ chief, Rami Abdel Rahman, stated that the attack on Sunday was the deadliest in Syria this year.
Last week, rebels carried out drone attacks in Russia, to which Russia responded by launching airstrikes in Syria. However, Russia has expressed support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
One of the survivors of the incident, Saad Fatou (35), who works as a laborer, mentioned that the attack occurred when he was in the market. He said, “The attack happened while unloading tomatoes and cucumbers from the car. Suddenly, a blast happened in front of me. There was blood and screams everywhere. I helped the injured. It’s a terrifying sight when you think about the incident. Russia attacked us.”
Another individual reported only seeing a cloud of black smoke. After that, sirens of ambulances were heard throughout the city.
Abdel Rahman stated that Russia carried out attacks in two separate areas in northwest Syria. The first attack took place in the city of Jisr al-Shughur, where seven civilians and three rebels were killed.
The second attack occurred in the outskirts of the city of Idlib, where two children, one civilian, and three rebels were killed. All the rebels belonged to the Turkistan Islamic Party.
