Kathmandu: Hollywood filmmakers Angela Bassett, Mel Brooks, and Carol Littleton have been honored with the prestigious Oscar Award. They will be presented with the awards at the upcoming Governors Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, USA, on November 18. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced their recognition in this year’s Governors Awards. Additionally, Michelle Settle from the Sundance Institute will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
“Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor these four individuals, whose contributions have made a significant impact on the film industry and inspired filmmakers and audiences alike,” said Academy President Janet Yang.
“Angela Bassett has set new standards in acting throughout her illustrious decade-long career. Mel Brooks’ comedic genius has brought light to our hearts, and his legacy has had a profound influence on every aspect of entertainment. Carol Littleton’s career in film editing will inspire future generations. Michelle Settle from the Independent Film Community has played a vital role in the careers of countless filmmakers worldwide,” she added.
The honorary Oscar Award is presented for extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the art of film and science, or outstanding service to the Academy. Esteemed actress Bassett has been a beloved figure in Hollywood for over 40 years, with notable performances in films and television. She received the Best Actress nomination at the Oscars for her role as Tina Turner in the 1993 film “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”
Recently, she was recognized with a second Oscar nomination for her role as Ramonda in Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” making history as the first actress and superhero to be nominated for an Academy Award. The 96th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 10, 2024.
