Kathmandu : A Nepali security guard was killed by gunfire near the building of the American Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
According to international media reports, a Nepali security guard, who was working in the private security of the Consulate General, was shot and succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.
It has also been reported that another individual, who was armed, was also killed.
According to officials, the armed individual had arrived in a car. The US Department of State has confirmed the incident but stated that there were no casualties among its citizens.
An investigation is underway regarding the shooting incident. The American Consulate General in Saudi Arabia has been a target multiple times in recent years.
In 2016, an explosion near the compound resulted in the death of a suicide attacker and two others were injured. In 2004, five individuals carried out a bomb attack on the American Consulate General.
