Kathmandu: The Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balan Shah, has directed to provide community school teachers with the same salary scale as private school teachers. Mayor Shah has emphasized the need for equal salary facilities for both community and private school teachers.
Due to the lower salary scale of community school teachers compared to private school teachers, the Mayor has directed to provide them with a salary raise, adjusting it to the scale prescribed by the Nepalese government. It is mentioned that according to Section 12(7)(c) of the Education Act, 2028, the salary scale of private school teachers has been adjusted, and the same should be applicable to community school teachers.
Referring to Rule 68 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Education System Regulation, 2074, which includes provisions for teacher salaries, allowances, retirement benefits, and other facilities, the Mayor has recalled that it should be implemented in accordance with the Federal Education Act.
In case teachers are unable to receive the prescribed salary facilities from the government, Mayor Shah has requested them to contact the Education Department of the Metropolitan City. According to the Education Department of the Metropolitan City, there are approximately 540 private schools in the metropolitan area.
It has been reported that most private schools have not provided salary scales to their teachers as per the law, which has raised concerns in the Metropolitan City.
