Kathmandu: The 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and former President of the Nepali Congress, Girija Prasad Koirala, is being celebrated today through various programs.
Born on Ashadh 18, 1981 BS, Koirala passed away on Chaitra 6, 2066 BS. On the occasion of his birth anniversary, the Nepali Congress and other well-wishing organizations have organized programs such as blood donation, distribution of fruits, panel discussions, and lighting of lamps.
Former President Koirala played a significant role in bringing the then Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), which had led an armed insurgency, into peaceful politics and played a crucial role in establishing democracy.
Koirala served as the Prime Minister of the country five times and also held the position of the party’s president for a long time.
