Kathmandu: Switzerland has agreed to participate in the SkyShield project aimed at defending Europe from aerial attacks. Last year, Germany initiated this project following the aggression by Russia in Ukraine.

The system will be constructed in a similar style to Israel’s Iron Dome, which has successfully intercepted rockets from Palestinian extremists. By participating in this project, Switzerland will acquire components and engage in training exercises.

Switzerland has expressed that this collective air defense system aligns with its interests. However, left-wing politicians have criticized this step, claiming that it compromises Switzerland’s long-standing policy of neutrality.

So far, 17 European countries have expressed their agreement to participate in this project.
