Dhanusha: The Janakpur-Jayanagar railway service, which has been operating from Janakpurdham to Kurtha Mahottari, will now extend its operation up to Bhangaaha and Bijalpur. Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Prakash Jwala inaugurated the service today.
The railway service, which has been running for the past 15 months in the 35-kilometer stretch from Jayanagar to Janakpurdham-Kurtha, will now operate in a 52-kilometer stretch, including Bijalpur. According to the Railway’s General Manager Nirajan Jha, the service expansion to Bijalpur has begun after the completion of the second phase’s physical infrastructure construction. However, the construction of the railway’s infrastructure from Bijalpur to Bardibas has been halted due to land compensation disputes.
After the completion of the construction of the seven-kilometer section, the Indian company IRCON Limited had handed over the project to the Nepal Railway Company on Jestha 18, last year.
The broad gauge double-set railway had initially started operating from 19 Chaitra 2078. Initially, it provided services from Janakpur to Jayanagar and back once, and then from Mangsir, it started running twice daily.
Starting from Monday, the service will expand further, with daily operations of two trains in three shifts, as stated by the General Manager. However, the Bhangaaha station will have only one trip in the morning and one in the evening for now.
