Chitwan : In Chitwan, during the fiscal year 2079-080, twelve people lost their lives in attacks by wild animals. Among them, five were killed by tigers and rhinos, and two lost their lives due to elephant attacks.
The families of the deceased have been provided with relief of NPR 1 million each by Chitwan National Park, as reported by the Information Officer of the park, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari.
Out of the total 31 serious injuries caused by wild animal attacks, the families have been provided with a medical expense of NPR 3,280,117. Similarly, for the 27 minor injuries, the families have received medical expenses of NPR 427,128.
According to the information officer, Tiwari, out of the total attacks, 17 were caused by elephants, 21 by rhinos, seven by bears, seven by leopards, and six by wild boars.
The data also shows that during the same period, 234 livestock were affected by wild animal attacks, for which NPR 3,138,400 has been provided as compensation.
Additionally, damages were also reported to stored grains. A total of 51 incidents of grain damages were recorded, for which NPR 3,958,625 has been compensated.
Furthermore, crop damages were reported 517 times, and the affected farmers have received NPR 3,958,625 as relief.
According to the information officer, Tiwari, a total of 856 incidents involving wild animal attacks were recorded in the past year. The local authorities have been allocated NPR 20,309,069 as relief for these incidents.
