Kathmandu: English fast bowler Stuart Broad has announced retirement from cricket after the ongoing Test series against Oval. Before the start of the third day’s play on Saturday, Broad informed his teammate James Anderson and Joe Root about his retirement.
“It’s been an incredible journey. To go out on this ground and play with Jimmy Anderson and Joe Root, who I’ve got so much love for, it’s a great place to finish. I’ve always had the dream of being able to take as much wickets as possible and to finish the series on a high,” said Broad after the conclusion of the third day’s play.
Broad is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket among fast bowlers, behind teammate Tim Met. He has taken 602 wickets in 167 Test matches.
“Spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan has the most wickets with 800, followed by Australian legend Shane Warne with 708, James Anderson with 690, and former Indian captain Anil Kumble with 619 wickets,” said Broad.
The 37-year-old Broad has played 121 ODIs and 56 T20I matches for England.
