Deviika, the former Indian women’s cricketer who has played one Test and fifteen ODIs, has been appointed as the batting consultant for the Nepali women’s cricket team for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 Asia Qualifier, starting from August 28 in Malaysia. She has arrived in Kathmandu for her role as the batting consultant.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has organized an initial training camp for a 24-member squad. Recently, Syamsan Jung Thapa, the cricket coach of the Nepal National Sports Council (NSC), was appointed as the head coach of the team.
Deviika previously worked as the batting coach for the Mumbai Indians’ women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last year.
Nepal will be competing in the Asia Qualifier from August 28 to September 9. The tournament features two groups, Group A includes Nepal, Malaysia, Bahrain, Bhutan, Qatar, and the UAE, while Group B consists of China, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Thailand, and Myanmar.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, and the finalists will qualify for the global qualifier.
