Janakpur: Four Nepali athletes are set to compete in the 22nd ITF Taekwondo World Championships in Kazakhstan.
Starting from August 18 until the 27th, the 22nd ITF Taekwondo World Championship will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, where two male and two female athletes from Nepal will participate in the competition.
In the women’s category, Rubika Khadka with a weight of 47 kg and Susmita Thapa with a weight of 52 kg will compete. In the men’s category, Pukar Kesi with a weight of 64 kg and Ajay Budhmagar with a weight of 68 kg will represent Nepal and present a challenge in the respective weight categories. Rubika had won two gold medals in the recently concluded South Asian ITF Taekwondo Championship held in India this month.
Rup Singh Moktan is the coach of the Nepali team for the World Championships, while Gham Bahadur Thapa and Vikram Bathamagar are the team officials.
Anjan Dhamala, the President of the Nepal ITF Federation and Vice-President of the South Asian ITF Taekwondo Federation, is leading the Nepali team for the World Championships.
Dhamala, who is also an executive member of the Asian ITF Federation and a board member of the National Sports Council (NSC), will also play a pivotal role in decision-making at the championship.
On Wednesday, Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha bid farewell to the 8-member Nepali team that will participate in the World Championships in Kazakhstan.
During a program held at Singhadurbar, Home Minister Shrestha highlighted the recent progress of Nepali sports and emphasized the important role played by Nepali athletes in its development.
Minister Shrestha conveyed his best wishes to the Nepali athletes, expressing confidence that they will compete with high spirits. He also mentioned that the government is focused on developing sports and is keen on following the suggestions of athletes for their development.
