Gandaki : With the slogan ‘Library for Books and Books for the Library,’ the National Library Day is celebrated on the 15th and 16th of Bhadra. The Gandaki Pradesh’s libraries are also preparing to celebrate the day with creative and informative programs.

Established in 2003, the leading Vidya Mandir Library of the country located in Baglung is organizing a five-day program on the occasion of this day. According to Rajan Prasad Sharma, the secretary of the library, various programs have been scheduled from the 11th of Bhadra. On the first day, the library premises will display promotional banners at the main square of the city, along with cleaning campaigns.

On the 12th, a secondary level art competition with the theme ‘Library for Books and Books for the Library’ will be organized by Baglung Municipality. On the same day, health check-ups and distribution of health materials will be carried out in the library’s children’s section.

The 13th will see a program focusing on the development and dimension of reading culture in collaboration with other social and educational organizations.

On the 14th, a program will be conducted in the Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for drug users, where books will be distributed as gifts.

On the 15th of Bhadra, the library is organizing a main event that includes award distribution.

“We have come to celebrate the National Library Day in a special way,” said Secretary Sharma. “This year’s program is designed to promote the development of the reading culture and attract new readers to the library.”

The library has gained a separate identity and significance due to its presence even during adverse times of the Rana era. With a focus on educational, social, and political awareness in the Dhawalagiri region, the library acquires around 17,000 books of various genres, collected from places ranging from Kathmandu to Delhi and Gorakhpur.

In addition to the physical library, there’s also an electronic library (E-Library) operational in the library. Initially situated in the school’s room and open to the public, the library now operates from its own well-facilitated building.”
