Colombo : There’s a widely heard story about the grand palace of Ravana in Sri Lanka. But do you know where Ravana’s Palace was and how magnificent it was?
Seeing this palace, you might not believe that this was Ravana’s Palace. Because once there was a lift going up inside this palace. Even after millions of years, people still believe that Ravana’s body was transported here.
In Sri Lanka, there’s a place called Sigiriya, where it’s believed that Ravana’s Palace was located. It’s said that there were thousands of steps in this palace, and people of that time used the lift to reach up to the level of Ravana.
The stone on which this palace stood was huge and majestic. It’s believed that Ravana’s kingdom extended from Badulla in the north to Anuradhapura, Kandy, Polonnaruwa, and Nuwara Eliya in the central Sri Lanka. This palace was said to be built by Kubera.
On the rock of Sigiriya, there are remnants of an ancient palace. Here, you can find strong terraced gardens, ponds, canals, and waterfalls. It’s said that Ravana kept Mother Sita here for a short time before moving her to another location.
There are many remarkable things about the grandeur of the palace, but the most remarkable was the water management system. Despite being at a high altitude, the palace had an excellent water supply system. Gardens were built for the queens, even in the high places.
Around a thousand steps led to Ravana’s Palace, but there was a lift going up. The local media in Sri Lanka believe that Ravana’s body was kept in the jungle around 8,000 feet high, in a mummy-like form. An unusual mixture was applied to the body so that it wouldn’t decompose. However, there hasn’t been solid evidence of this yet.
