Kathmandu: The successful Nepali film ‘Bagan,’ which has been well received in Nepal, has started its exhibition in the United States of America.
The film ‘Jhari,’ which was released on Baisakh 1 of this year in Nepal, unexpectedly earned over NPR 170 million at the domestic box office. Following that, the film ‘Bagan,’ which is the second highest-earning film ever, has begun its exhibition in the United States. The songwriter and producer Suresh Wagle, director Saroj Khanal, and actress Pramila Karki, all participated in the film.
Starting from the last week of August, the film is being screened in various cities. According to the songwriter Wagle, “We have planned to screen the film in even more cities. Just like in Nepal, we expect to receive positive feedback from audiences attending various shows here.” The film was well received by the audience, with tears being shed by solo women and mothers who saw their own stories depicted on the screen.
According to Wagle, the film ‘Bagan’ will be screened in theaters until August 31st, in Ohio’s field and North Carolina’s Greensboro. It will be screened in Virginia on September 10th, Colorado on September 17th, Charlotte on September 24th, and Delaware on October 1st. Similarly, it will be screened in Toronto, Canada, on September 2nd. Additionally, Wagle provided information that the film will also be screened in cities such as New York, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Los Angeles, California, Harrisburg, Atlanta, and more.
Directed by Saroj Khanal, an active actor in acting for three decades, the film has brought forth the story of a solo woman. Saroj Khanal, along with Karishma Manandhar, Pramila Karki, Nir Shah, Aakash Shrestha, and Mithila Sharma, acts in the film. Actress Karki, who made her debut in acting through this film, received positive feedback from audiences, especially from single women who were moved by seeing their own stories depicted on screen.
“Feedback received in Nepal made us curious about when the film would be exhibited abroad. Now, we are showing it according to the same schedule,” says songwriter Wagle. He also mentioned that the film will be exhibited in cooperation with the distribution company Seven Sij Entertainment in several places in the United States.
Based on the story of Swapnil Neerav, the film was made as a presentation on the Nepali website Dot Com. Suresh Wagle, the producer and songwriter of ‘Bagan,’ is the executive producer, while Vinod Manandhar is the executive producer. The film also includes cinematography by Gaurishankar Dhunjuk and Utsav Dahal, editing by Sandesh Shah, and B-FX by Samir Miya. Color correction is done by Renish Fago.
Background score is done by Sujil Karmacharya, and sound mixing by Mukesh Shah. The music for the film’s songs is provided by Hari Lamsal and Suvas Bhusal, with vocals by Anju Panta, Sugam Pokharel, and Asmita Adhikari.
